| preface
Outstandingly trained and internationally active technicians are of elementary importance for the technical leading position of the domestic economy. Numerous surveys prove a substantial and continuous need for engineers, in particular with an emphasis on mechanical engineering & mechatronics. Mechatronics unites the traditional disciplines mechanics, electronics and computer science. These fields cooperate in computer controlled plants and disclose future orientated solutions. On an international scale mechanical engineering ranks amongst the most important branches of industry and initiates technical innovation. The introduction of the Bachelor’s program Mechatronics & Focus Engineering creates an innovative course which meets the expectations of economy and science and fulfills the highest international requirements. As well as conveying scientific-technical qualifications the course emphasises on economic, legal and social-communicative skills (Social skills, foreign languages etc.) Motivated lecturers from the fields of economy, science and consulting, the international focus of the course and the limited number of study places, guarantee excellent study conditions with attractive prospects for the future. The Bachelor’s program can be complete in full-time form (start autumn 2008) and in part-time form (start autumn 2009). It is a crucial component of an all-out technical offensive, which is being realized in close cooperation with Tyrol, the city of Innsbruck, the domestic economy as well as the universities and secondary schools, thus synergetically supplementing the existing courses offered. |

| career prospects & program
Graduates of this program, which is unique in Austria, will work at the interface between Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics. They will have a sound command of the principles of both disciplines and know how to combine them synergetically. The holders of a Bachelor’s degree perceive themselves as comprehensively acting engineers focussing on the development, steering, optimization and controlling of industrial processes. The Bachelor’s program comprises 6 semesters and includes 116 hours per semester, amounting to a total of approximately 1,740 hours of instruction. From the 4th semester the students can choose between two fields of specialization: ‘Mechanical Engineering’ or ‘Mechatronics’. The classroom language is generally German; lectures and exams can also be held in English. A semester’s duration is from the mid of September to the end of January and from the mid of February to the beginning of July. As a rule lectures will take place Mondays through Fridays during the daytime and Saturdays 08.30 am – 5 pm, additionally block seminars. contents

| mechatronics
Mechatronics is one of the technological key innovations of the 21st century. This field shows substantial potential for growth and offers enormous chances on the job market. Mechatronics unites the traditional disciplines mechanical engineering / mechanics, electro technology / electronics and information technology / computer science. Automated machines and plants have become functional units incorporating mechanical, electronic and computer controlled components. Development, assembly, initiation and maintenance of such mechanical-electronic systems require experts, with interdisciplinary qualifications in the aforementioned disciplines. Graduates are applicable in various fields of work, in particular within the following areas:

| mechanical engineering
On an international scale mechanical engineering ranks amongst the most important branches of industry and initiates technical innovation. Due to the constantly increasing automation modern technical plants are equipped with complex measurement & control techniques. Considering technical progress, economical requirements and efficient usage possibilities mechanical engineers design and construct single machines as well as plants. They attend to the acquisition, development and operation of plants and are responsible for planning, controlling and monitoring of projects and processes. Considering the basic safety and economical conditions, newest realizations in engineering are transferred to industrial and commercial production. Graduates are applicable in various fields of work, in particular within the following areas:

| going global
The international aspect of this study program is reflected in the composition of the faculty, the students, the curriculum and study related projects. The acquisition of excellent English skills is a particularly important fact. The study program includes an international semester for local and incoming-students from partner universities from all over the world. All courses of this semester are held entirely in English. This international semester can alternatively be attended at MCI partner universities with the provision of full credit. |

| internship
During the last academic year (semester 5 or 6) students without qualified professional experience are required to complete an integrative internship in a relevant industry either in Austria or abroad. The program management will provide organizational support and mentoring in co-operation with the relevant company. |

prerequisites & admission
Applications for admission to the program shall be submitted on the basis of the standarized application form, including all required documentation, in accordance with the applicable deadline. If the number of applications exceeds the number of available places, admission will be based on the following criteria:
Applications can be handed in at any time. The standardized application form as well as all required documents should be submitted in good time. |

| recognition of approved skills
Requests for acknowledgment of studies, examinations or scientific activities can be addressed to the program director after admission to the course of studies. In general the acknowledgement of single courses is favoured over acknowledging complete semesters. The Ministry of science and the accreditation authority have approved of accepting especially qualified HTL graduates into the 3rd semester of this Bachelor’s program, under certain conditions. |

| tuition fees
Students are required to pay a tuition fee of currently EUR 363 per semester plus membership fee to the Austrian Student Union. A deposit of EUR 363 must be paid at the beginning of the program, in order to prevent students failing to begin or dropping out of their studies. This deposit will be used to cover the tuition fees for the 2nd semester. Students are also required to pay for any course material supplied by MCI. |

| faculty
The academic staf f consists of full-time professors and lecturers of MCI supplemented by experienced lecturers from the fields of science, business and various other professions. This guarantees that the latest developments in scientific research and practical application are fully integrated in the curriculum of this program. Coupling progressive didactic teaching methods with intensive mentoring ensures a practice-oriented edu ca tion that of fers the support needed to complete this course of studies within the projected timeframe. ‘Theoretical’ and ‘practical’ are not contradictory. The combination of these two approaches of fers both oppor tunities and challenges in this new form of teaching and learning. |

| degree
Graduates of the program are conferred the academic degree Bachelor of Science in Engineering, in short BSc or B.Sc. (attested by a leaving certificate, the Bachelor’s diploma, the international diploma supplement etc.). Other than embarking on their professional career, graduates will have the option of continuing their studies by a corresponding Master’s program in Austria or abroad. MCI implements a number of internationally oriented Master’s programs (see page 22). A consecutive Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering & Mechatronics is planned in 2011 leading to the academic degree Master of Science in Engineering, in short MSc or M.Sc.. Graduates of a Master‘s program are eligible to be admitted to corresponding doctoral studies. |
