prefaceIn our society the significance of information and communication technologies (ICT) is constantly growing. It is mainly through innovative IT solutions that an increasing number of businesses, especially small- and medium-sized enterprises, are enabled to improve their competitiveness and gain a lasting competitive advantage. There is a growing demand on the job market for highly qualified personnel, people with a distinctive personality who are able to operate efficiently at the interface between applied informatics and management. The connection of these two fields is evident in the concrete application of electronic communication and collaboration within companies. The degree program not only includes an optional exchange semester but also offers four electives: Digital arts & media, eLearning, eHealth and eTourism. The program is complemented by an intensive dialogue with business experts from the field, which is reflected in joint academic research and practical projects. |

career prospectsFields of application are not necessarily bound to a specific branch or size of enterprise. In addition to ITrelated companies, companies in which IT plays a decisive role (e.g. IT to support processes within chains of value) depict potential employers, in particular the following fields:
Furthermore, tourism, health care and the education sector (universities and research institutions) ought to be listed as well as the IT sector including hard- and software manufacturers and developers, system administrators and consulting companies. |

programThe study program ‘Management, Communication & IT’ comprises 6 semesters of 15 weeks each, providing courses totalling 117 semester credit units or 1,755 hours of instruction. Attendance is generally compulsory for all mandatory courses. In the third year students serve an integrative professional internship of 15 weeks and complete their thesis. One of the factors that make this interdisciplinary higher education program so unique is that the students can choose their area of specialization among several future-oriented fields suitable for the application of management and IT: Digital arts & media, eLearning, eHealth and eTourism. Further essential goals of the study program are personal development and the acquisition of communication skills in English. A major focus lies on the development of comprehensive management competencies encompassing a variety of different functions and duties. schedule

internshipDuring the 6th semester students are required to complete an integrative internship in a relevant industry either in Austria or abroad. The program management will provide organizational support and mentoring in cooperation with the relevant company. This concept of learning by doing constitutes an ideal stepping stone for a future career and, furthermore, is often useful as the basis for writing a thesis. |

research & developmentThe strong link between the study program, business-related research and development projects constitutes an integral part of the program and creates an attractive opportunity for students to address concrete problems and solution concepts from science and business already during their education. Following this context, we would like to give special reference to Telekom Austria AG, the leading Austrian provider in information and communications technologies and a pioneer in implementing state-of-the-art concepts, which actively supports and closely cooperates with the study program. |

internationalityThe global perspective is reflected in the composition of the faculty, the students, the curriculum and the study related project. Particular importance is placed on the excellent command of English. A selected number of students will have the opportunity to take part in a semester-abroad program with a partner university and / or to complete their internship with a foreign company. facultyThe academic staff consists of full-time professors and lecturers of MCI, as well as acknowledged experts from the fields of science, technology and business as well as the independent professions. This guarantees that the latest developments in the world of science and practical application are synergistically integrated in the curriculum of the program. Coupling progressive didactic teaching methods with intensive mentoring ensures a practical education that offers the support needed to complete this course of studies within the projected time-frame. ‘Theoretical’ and ‘practical’ are not contradictory terms, but as a fusion offer opportunities and challenges for a new form of teaching and learning. |
