International food technology expert at the MCI Print E-mail
Professor Weibiao Zhou, from the National University of Singapore, discussed international developments in food
technology with MCI students.

In the framework of a three-day visit to Management Center Innsbruck, Professor Weibiao Zhou, Director of the Food Science & Technology program run by the National University of Singapore, gave a talk to students on “Food technology – Singapore as a case study; current status of food science and technology, the food industry and regulatory framework in Singapore”. He also provided an interesting insight into the structure of the Asian educational system. In view of the fact that Singapore imports almost 90 % of its raw materials, it was impressive to hear how product
innovations are launched in the food industry there.

The visit was the result of an agreement signed last year between the MCI and the National University of Singapore, one of the world’s leading universities. The agreement enables students of the MCI to spend a semester in Singapore and participate in the NUS Food Science & Technology program. This is considered one of the most innovative study programs and boasts such project partners as Nestlé and Cadbury.

In addition to benefits in academic and personal development, the agreement also enables students to discover the multicultural atmosphere of the “Switzerland of Asia”. The first exchange students from the MCI Food & Bioresource Technologies program are expected in Singapore for the 2013/14 winter semester.
