The deep and far-reaching structural changes to modern societies lead to increasing complexities of social problems and to a growing concern for sustainable socio-economic development. There is a growing understanding that many social problems are structurally determined and therefore must be resolved at this level. The classical client-centred social work strategies and techniques are to be evaluated and supplemented through operational strategies and methods at the regional (meso) and societal (macro) levels. Thus, the areas of controlled social change, the (re)formation of social policy, the descriptive and explanatory research of the emergence and solution of societal problems, a thorough theoretical knowledge and well-founded mastery of the latest intervention strategies in social work, as well as knowledge in the area of management of social organizations, are all becoming increasingly necessary and important in social work. There is a growing societal need for more profound social work knowledge and an understanding of a balanced configuration of societal co-existence at the micro, meso and macro levels. The purpose of the Master’s program Social Work, Social Policy & Management is to provide, through input from regionally and internationally active specialists, a practice-based education in the solution of societal problems. Graduates are trained to apply the latest social work methods and techniques appropriately in their particular practice, to analyse social problems through social work research methods, to recognize their determinants and follow the conclusions through, to initiate social policy judiciously and to lead social organizations efficiently and effectively. |
