What better source could there be for a reliable assessment of university quality standards than scientific research, independent media, external decision-makers and clients? Selected results from scientific research and independent media 2013 FIBAA’s Premium Seal now awarded for the first time in Austria: Special distinction for two Executive study programs at the MCI
Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) has received high-level international recognition. The Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA) has audited two MCI Executive Master programs, namely
and in recognition of their outstanding quality, has awarded them both the FIBAA Premium Seal. That makes the Entrepreneurial School® the only holder of the FIBAA Premium Seal in Austria to date. Just how great an achievement this is is clear from the fact that so far only nine (!) out of 1,400 FIBAA-accredited degree programs have received the prestigious Premium Seal. Registered as a non-profit foundation under Swiss law and headquartered in Bonn, FIBAA operates as a European accreditation agency offering additional national accreditation. FIBAA awards its Premium Seal exclusively to degree programs with an outstanding standard of excellence that is far in excess of normal requirements. In the eyes of FIBAA’s auditors, the two MCI study programs are particularly impressive in terms of their objectives, their consistent international orientation, their convincing positioning on the education and employment markets, and their strong integration within the university’s strategic concept. The commission also awarded the MBA and MSc a first-class rating for program implementation, academic quality and a convincing combination of theory and practice. Faculty completed the general picture of excellence, with outstanding scores for its international composition, methods and didactics, scientific qualifications, practical know-how and student support. The commission was also highly impressed by the study program office and management, the quality assurance systems and development, and networking with universities, companies and scientific institutions at home and abroad, In combination with the award of the Premium Seal, the two MCI study programs had their accreditation extended up to the end of the 2019 summer semester. FIBAA Quality Seal2012 MCI again leading the way in the 2012 Universum Student Survey MCI students are among the most satisfied in Austria! In addition to students' general satisfaction with their places of study, the Universum Student Survey, which was first conducted in 2009, evaluates specific criteria such as teaching, faculty, support, service, practical relevance, industry contacts, careers potential, international orientation and reputation. The results of the Universum Student Survey for Austria are based on a representative poll of students of economics, engineering, natural sciences and the humanities at Austrian universities. Students at the MCI regularly award particularly good grades for the outstanding quality of the teaching, the university's excellent standing, the pronounced practical focus of its study programs, and its very full offering of student services. Austrian universities compared (2009 - 2012):
Scoring: 5 is the maximum score. 4.36 points therefore means 4.36 out of 5. 2011 Ranked #1 in Austria MCI again comes first in the 2011 Universum Survey In 2011 Austria’s most satisfied students are again to be found at the MCI Management Center Innsbruck. That is the result of the recently published 2011 Universum Student Survey, based on a representative poll of 5,500 students of economics, engineering, IT and natural sciences conducted by the international consulting company Universum between November 2010 and April 2011 in collaboration with Austrian universities and universities of applied science. The ranking is based on respondees’ views of the quality of such criteria as teaching, faculty, support, service, practical relevance, industry contacts, careers potential, international orientation, opportunities for study abroad, reputation and other important aspects. It is also interesting to note that the students’ quality assessments play an important role in their choice of university. As the following table clearly shows, the MCI was ranked well ahead of the best universities and other universities of applied sciences. (5 = very satisfied ….. 1 = very dissatisfied).
The MCI - the Entrepreneurial School ® – has thus managed a highly convincing hat-trick, having already come first in the Universum Student Surveys in 2009 and 2010. MCI Comes Tops in the CHE University Ranking 33 places in the top group, no classification in the bottom group one single time The latest university ranking published by the international Centre for Higher Education contains sensational results for the Management Center Innsbruck. With its high-quality offering in Economic and Social Sciences, the MCI was not classified in the bottom group one single time and achieved no fewer than 33 places in the top group. The details look even more impressive:
All MCI study programs in Economic and Social Sciences were ranked in the top group with regard to “General organization of the program” (not a single placement in the middle or bottom group). The same applies to the evaluation of lecture and seminar rooms with regard to their general condition, facilities, and availability of places for students.
All study programs in the field of Business Administration / Management were placed in the top category with regard to “Overall situation for study” and “Support provided by teachers” (again not a single placement in the middle or bottom group). In addition, the MCI scored with its Business Administration / Management offering in terms of practical and professional relevance and international character.
With its part-time Business & Management program, the MCI was the only school in the German-speaking countries (D, CH, A) to be ranked in the top group for every (!) criterion. Students are particularly happy with the range of classes, evaluation of faculty, eLearning facilities and contact with students.
The MCI’s Social Work study program also attracted above-average scores in comparison with the other universities, including top results for organization of the program and infrastructure.
2010 MCI ranked #1 MCI is once again placed 1st in the Austrian-wide University survey of 2010. The most satisfied students in Austria study at the Management Centre Innsbruck. This is demonstrated in the latest University student survey of 2010 on which a representative survey of around 5,100 students from 23 universities Austrian-wide is based. This ranking judges the quality of numerous criteria such as teaching staff, professors, mentoring, service, economic ties, career opportunities, internationality, study-abroad possibilities, university reputation as well as many more attributes from the perspectives of students, whereas economic science, technical , and physical science fields of study remain at the forefront of the survey. MCI heralded as the best in Austria by Format university ranking Source: FORMAT, no. 25, Vienna, June 2010 The Austrian business Magazine Format surveyed Human Resource Managers’ of leading Austrian companies as well as professional personnel consultants on the quality of Austrian universities. The results were extremely positive for MCI. 29% of the respondents affirmed MCI as very good quality. Thus, MCI not only beats the second placed university of applied sciences (17%) but also numerous Austrian universities. Tops marks again for the Entrepreneurial School® Executives confirm the quality and standing of the Executive Master programs (MBA, MSc and LL.M.) at Management Center Innsbruck Source: Industriemagazin, no. 5/2010, Vienna In a recent poll conducted by the Austrian “Industriemagazin”, 385 executives were asked to assess the image and quality of providers of postgraduate Master study programs. The results put the MCI Management Center Innsbruck up among the winners as a successful competitor on the Austrian market. With its three international Executive Master study programs
the MCI was not only voted number one in west Austria by the executives polled; the Entrepreneurial School® also emerged as the best in the country among the non-university providers, who are generally perceived as excelling in terms of practical relevance and international orientation. The MCI did particularly well with executives with personal experience of the school (as students, lecturers, graduates or through personal contacts, etc). This group awarded Management Center Innsbruck an aggregate of 4.2 points, which is very close to the theoretical maximum of 5. Industriemagazin’s ranking included all the providers of Executive Master programs in Austria and covered a total of 250 postgraduate Master study programs. Scoring was performed on the basis of a 5-point scale, from 5 for very good to 1 for inadequate. 2009 MCI comes first again Students of the MCI Management Center Innsbruck and Graz Technical University award the highest scores for university quality in Austria. Austria’s most satisfied students are to be found at the MCI Management Center in Innsbruck and Graz Technical University. That is the result of the recently published 2009 Universum Student Survey, in which more than 4,000 students of 18 Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences (FH) were asked about their university experience, and career aspirations and preferences (survey conducted from November 2008 to March 2009). Apart from their general impressions and level of satisfaction, students were also asked about the quality of their study programs and teaching, and the services provided by their respective universities. The Universum survey also polled students for their experience with and evaluation of their universities’ careers services. As the results of the survey show, MCI Management Center Innsbruck, which has always had a strong focus on excellence in teaching and student services, needs fear no comparison. With a score of 4.2 out of 5 points, MCI - the Entrepreneurial School® came first equal with Graz Technical University in the ranking for all Austrian universities. And for the universities of applied sciences (FH), MCI came first followed by FH Upper Austria (4.1 points) and FH Joanneum Graz (4.0 points).
MCI awarded European seal of approval Prestigious ECTS label for MCI - the Entrepreneurial School®, only the third such award in the German-speaking area to date. On 11 June 2009, the European Commission, represented by Commissioner for Education Jan Figel, conferred the ECTS label on the MCI. To date, only 14 universities have been awarded the ECTS label in all 27 EU member countries, including just three in the German-speaking area. ECTS, which is short for European Credit Transfer System, guarantees the comparability and mutual recognition of university programs in Europe. It is based on a points system for the various teaching units and examinations, and provides maximum transparency and information for all stakeholders at Europe’s higher education institutions. Universities that meet the ECTS criteria to an outstanding degree can be awarded the ECTS label by the European Commission. The criteria for the award are extremely strict. 2008 1st place for MCI MCI again comes top of the “Industriemagazin” ranking for 2008 The fact that quality does not come by chance but is the result of consistent endeavor is confirmed by the survey recently published by the Austrian “Industriemagazin”.
