The Bachelor program Social Work comprises 6 semesters of 15 weeks each, providing courses totalling 121 semester credit units or 1,815 hours of instruction (internship not included). Winter semesters start in September / Oc t ober and continue until February. Summer semesters start in March and end in June / July. The first semester starts always in the winter semester.
The language of instruction is generally German; individual courses and exams, however, may be in other languages. Attendance is compulsory for all courses. In addition to a 4-weeks internship after the first semester, the fourth semester is reserved for a professional integrative internship of 15 weeks. The fifth semester can be spent at one of MCI’s foreign partner universities; courses and lectures will be credited. In the fifth and sixth semester students are required to complete their Bachelor theses.
The study program provides a thorough academic and practical qualification in applied science of social work and major related sciences (law, psychology, sociology, politics, education, etc.). In the applied emphasis is put on the explicit development of social work skills and a practice-oriented education in inter disciplinary practice.
The thorough command of foreign languages, internationally relevant topics, case studies, project assignments and internships are other major foci of this social work degree program which guarantees excellent opportunities for graduates in the job market.
