Innsbruck has a long history as a university town and offers a variety of housing options including student dormitories, private rooms, and shared apartments. Prices vary depending on size, location, and equipment.

Accommodation for Exchange Students


The Austrian Exchange Service (OeAD) arranges rooms in student dormitories for a monthly fee. This is the easiest and most convenient way for exchange students to find relatively inexpensive housing.

MCI cooperates with the dormitory “Internationales Studentenhaus” (ISH). Exchange students can also book a room at ISH via MCI.

Students may also apply for a room directly at one Innsbruck’s numerous dormitories. However, a lot of dormitories only rent out their rooms for a minimum period of twelve months and, in many cases, the application forms are available in German only.

Finding private accommodation in Innsbruck is not always easy, especially at the beginning of a new semester. Nevertheless, students who are willing to invest considerable effort may be able to find a room in a shared apartment or a studio.
