The City


Antwerp is the capital of Antwerp province in Flanders, Belgium, and has a population of 520,504 inhabitants. It is located on the River Scheldt, which links it to the North Sea. The Port of Antwerp is one of the biggest in the world, ranking second in Europe. The city is also known for its diamond industry and trade.
Both economically and culturally, Antwerp is and has long been an important city in the Low Countries. It had an artistic reputation in the 17th century, based on its school of painting, which included Rubens, Van Dyck, Jordaens, the two Teniers and many others.

The University


The University of Antwerp is one of the major Belgian universities located in the city of Antwerp. It has about 20,000 students, which makes it the third largest university in Flanders. The University of Antwerp is characterised by its high standards in education, internationally competitive research and entrepreneurial approach. It was founded in 2003 after the merger of three smaller universities and has earned the renowned AACSB accreditation.
