Elena Engel ist Projektassistentin am 'Center for Social and Health Innovation' und Doktorandin an der Universität Wien. Sie hat ihr Bachelorstudium in Kommunikationswissenschaften und Anglistik sowie ihr Masterstudium in Gesundheitskommunikation an der Universität Erfurt abgeschlossen. Im Jahr 2021 arbeitete Elena Engel als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Universität Erfurt für die wiederholte Querschnittsstudie "COSMO - COVID-19 Snapshot Monitoring". Anschließend war sie als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover tätig und im Juni 2022 begann sie ihre Arbeit am MCI.

Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Gesundheitskommunikation und konzentrieren sich auf Soziale Medien, Influencer und die Gesundheit von Jugendlichen. In ihrer Dissertation beschäftigt sie sich mit der Darstellung von Nahrungsergänzungmitteln durch Influencer.
