MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® is pleased to invite you to the 9th Responsible Management Education Research (RMER) Conference, which will take place from 27 – 29 September 2022 and is organized in collaboration with the PRME Chapter DACH, the PRME Anti-Poverty Working Group, and the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (Switzerland).
Join us in beautiful Innsbruck, the heart of the Austrian Alps, for this annual gathering of the global PRME Community and beyond to share and discuss new ideas, approaches, theories, experiences and practical applications to responsible leadership education and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This year, the conference is centered around the topic “Societal Impact through Entrepreneurship & Innovation: Responsible Leadership Education for the Changemakers of tomorrow.” We invite you to jointly explore the role of entrepreneurship and innovation in preparing students for a fast-changing, challenging world that requires innovative and creative thinking, new mindsets and approaches, and brave and responsible leadership.
The conference will be a 3-day event, including an exciting program with diverse and interactive formats.
The Responsible Management Research Conferences are by tradition open for co-design by PRME Working Groups, PRME Regional Chapters, PRME Champion Groups, other international associations and actors operating in the landscape of responsible management education, Global Compact Local Networks and UN local offices, as well as from the research and educational community in general, and the respective stakeholders of all these groups.
The venues of the RMER Conferences, rotate among PRME DACH Chapter institutions and those from the global community of the PRME Anti-poverty Working Group members. The previous seven RMER Conferences, their themes and venues included:
The 9th RMER Conference will be held as an on-site event in Innsbruck, Austria from 27-29 September 2022.
All participants, presenting authors, track chairs, or moderators will need to register and pay the conference fees. PRME members pay the full registration fees to attend the RMER Conference. By attending the 9th RMER Conference, you consent to photos, videos, etc. being taken for reproduction and distribution for educational, news or promotional purposes.

Conference fee includes Welcome Reception, admission to all sessions and conference workshops, coffee breaks and lunches. Conference fees do not include the conference dinner on 28 September 2022 (50 EUR per person). We do not offer special rates for accompanying persons. All attendees must register as conference participants.
After registration you will be automatically redirected to the payment platform. Please note that payment is possible via credit card only. The registration is completed once the payment has been received and access to the conference will be granted after receipt of the full payment.

The safety and well-being of our guests is of utmost importance to us. Despite our best efforts to organize the conference as an in-person event, we cannot predict how to the pandemic situation develops from now until September. By coach: the coach service of Flixbus provides you with a convenient and low-cost way to travel to Innsbruck within Europe.
By car: Innsbruck is connected to major European motorways arriving from the North (Western Europe and Germany via Munich), from the South (Italy via Verona), from the West (Switzerland via Zurich) and from the East (Hungary via Vienna). This means that Innsbruck can be reached by car within a couple of hours driving from Central, Western and Eastern Europe.
By plane: The airport of Innsbruck is located 10 minutes from the city center and has excellent coach connections. The airport handles regional flights around the Alps, as well as international flights to European destinations. Further info can be found here. 1. CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS – 27 SEPTEMBER 2022:The first conference day will be dedicated to the RMER Workshops, which offer four different opportunities for participation for all attendees:
Participation is free and included in the registration. Please note that you can only participate in ONE workshop (selection upon registration).
2. REGULAR PAPER SESSIONS:In these sessions three or four papers (extended abstracts, short paper, full paper, posters) are presented. Sessions will last 1.5 hours (90 minutes). Authors will have about 10 to 15 minutes to present their work. After the presentation a discussion of about 5 to10 minutes will follow to provide comments and feedback. Any remaining times is reserved for discussion, questions and comments. All attendees are invited to participate in the debate.
3. OTHER FORMATS & INTERACTIVE SESSIONS:Other formats are either integrated into the regular paper sessions or standalone sessions. These formats can include workshops, role plays, simulations, interventions, panels, project presentations and other interactive formats and will vary in length. All attendees are invited to participate actively and contribute with constructive input.

Karin Haselböck, Head of Strategic Planning, Ashoka Europe
Karin Haselböck is part of the European leadership team of Ashoka in Europe. Ashoka is a living encyclopedia of social innovation across the globe. The organization pioneered the field of social entrepreneurship with today’s network of 4000+ Ashoka Fellows in 95 countries worldwide. Karin has held positions in most sectors, leading the program TRIGOS, a renowned sustainability award for Austrian businesses as well as initiating an Austrian Leadership Program for Women at the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber. She was working as a journalist, as a Marketing Director for the Austrian tourism industry, creating systemic change in the field of safety on the slopes, she worked for bigger and smaller companies and did research for environmental consultancy for the Ministry of Environment in Austria. She has been working and studying in England, the USA, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland and Austria. Karin studied for an MBA at the University of Economics and Management in Vienna, Austria and the University of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA as well as the De Havilland College in Borehamwood, UK. Karin loves mentoring kids in the forests around Vienna, being a vision fast guide for the School of lost Borders in the US and going skiing with her teenage sons and husband in the Austrian alps.

Dr. Michael Losch, Special Envoy for Green Industrial Policy
Dr. Michael Losch is Special Envoy for Green Industrial Policy in the Austrian Permanent Representation to the European Union. Prior to this recent appointment he served four years as Austrian Director General for Energy and Mining (2016-2020) and twelve years as Austrian Director General for Economic Policy, Innovation and Technology (2004-2016). From 1997 to 2004 Michael Losch worked in the European Commission, two years in the context of liberalisation of energy markets in DG Energy and five years as Member of Cabinet of Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler. Michael Losch is an economist with a focus on competition policy, competitivness issues, innovation and energy transition. He studied at the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien and at HEC in Paris.

His work as a champion for thriving, strategy analyst, sustainability academic, documentary filmmaker, and professional speaker has taken him to more than 75 countries. Prof. WU Xiaobo, Professor of Innovation and Strategic Management, Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University, China and Cheung Kong Chair Professor, honored by MoE, China
Professor WU Xiaobo is the Director of National Institute for Innovation Management (NIIM), Co-Director of Zhejiang University-Cambridge University Joint Research Center for Global Manufacturing and Innovation Management. He serves as Board member of China Economic and Social Council, Global Future Council of WEF, and Advisory Committee of Zhejiang Provincial Government of China. He is the board member and vice president of CEEMAN, and used to be Smiths chair professor of Leeds University, UK, and guest professor at Waseda University, Japan.
His primary research interests centered in Managing Technological Innovation, Global Manufacturing, Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship. In the areas mentioned above, he has published over 200 academic papers and over 10 books. And he serves on the editorial boards of academic journals, including Asian Journal of Technological Innovation, Journal of Engineering Management and etc. His recent book “The Management Transformation of Huawei” has been published by Cambridge University Press 2020.
He devotes himself in cultivating the healthy power leading the future.

Dr. Mette Morsing, Head of PRME and UN Global Compact
Mette Morsing (Ph.D. 1994) is Head of PRME, UN Global Compact (New York). Before May 2020, Mette Morsing was the Mistra Chair of Sustainable Markets and Executive Director of Misum: Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets at Stockholm School of Economics, (Sweden) (since 2017). She was also Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility at Copenhagen Business School (CBS, Denmark) (since 2007). She was the Founding Director of CBS Center for Corporate Social Responsibility in 2002, and she was the Academic Director of CBS Sustainability Platform 2011-2016 with the ambition to integrate sustainability across fifteen academic departments. In 2003, she was the co-founder of Academy of Business in Society (ABIS, Bruxelles), where she served as a Member of the Board of Directors for 10 years. Morsing was in 2010 appointed as a member of the executive board of directors at LEGO Foundation and Melting Pot, and in 2016 she was elected by her colleagues to serve on CBS Board.

Mag.a Ingrid Felipe, Deputy Governor of Tyrol, Austria
Ingrid Felipe studied business administration at the University of Innsbruck and worked in sports management for, among others, the National Artificial Track Luge Team or the Tyrolean Handball Association, as assistant to the management in catering businesses and as office manager of an architecture firm. From 2005 to 2010, Felipe was the finance officer of the Tyrolean Greens, from 2009 to 2013 state spokeswoman and from 2012 member of the Tyrolean state parliament. Since 2013, Ingrid Felipe has been Deputy Governor and responsible for the environment, nature and climate protection, waste law, transport and mobility policy as well as sustainability and development cooperation in Tyrol.

This is the Climate Action Simulation, an award-winning simulation-based role-play of the "UN Climate Action Summit", using the climate-energy simulator En-ROADS, co-developed by Climate Interactive and the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative. This workshop is designed to provide an interactive experience to participants and is open to educators, students, and other conference participants alike. Following the Climate Action Simulation itself is a training of participants in how to lead the simulation effectively and a discussion about its use in teaching.

According to UNESCO, futures literacy "is the skill that allows people to better understand the role of the future in what they see and do. Being futures literate empowers the imagination, enhances our ability to prepare, recover and invent as changes occur" (UNESCO, 2021). There are several approaches that strengthen futures literacy. One prominent approach on the part of UNESCO is the Futures Literacy Laboratories (FLL). The Futures Literacy Laboratories (FL Labs) are usually comprised out of four phases (Reveal, Reframe, Rethink, Action), depending on general aims and design aspects agreed upon prior to its execution and implementation, which can have various application possibilities. Along with the four phases of FLL, educators can invite students to develop the respective futures for, e.g., their assigned business sectors (e.g., tourism, fashion, mobility, etc.). Navigating through these phases provides learners with ideas to create compelling narratives for sustainable & responsible business development by learning about and experiencing selected exercises reaching from trends analysis, foresight, and scenario planning to backcasting and prototyping.

PRME, with the generous support of LEGO® Foundation has commenced the three-year PRME (i5) program to promote more effective leadership practices in business through a new and different pedagogical approach to learning in leadership education. The PRME (i5) Playbook to be developed as part of the project will provide a guide that equips educators to test new pedagogical approaches for holistic skillset development among their students at leadership schools.
This workshop will present the project and will engage participants in collaborative and interactive work to gain valuable feedback and input from conference delegates.

At the Global Goals Design Jam the challenges relate to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - or Global Goals – as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that was adopted by the United Nations in 2015. The Global Goals Design Jam is an innovative, highly participatory teaching method that offers an opportunity to identify new opportunities together with students from different fields of studies and universities all over the world. In this track we want to shed light on the content and the way management education addresses sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship, finding an answer to the question: What and how do we teach managers for sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship?

This track introduces futures literacy as a key competence for responsible leaders, and explores approaches that foster this competence. To enable students to go beyond critically reflecting the status quo of various industries by exploring different visions of these and working towards implementing respective futures, we invite submissions about relevant approaches such as trends analysis, foresight, and scenario planning, backcasting, and prototyping in the context of leadership education.

This track explores how both current and future business leaders develop the skills, knowledge and mindset required to understand high-impact climate solutions and their contributions to a positive, equitable future for all. The track seeks to elicit submissions that encourage debate on how responsible management educators can engage students and business leaders in creative thinking, the development of new mindsets and approaches, and to exhibit brave and responsible leadership for climate solutions.

With a share of more than two thirds of all businesses, family firms are the most prevalent form of business organizations worldwide. Family-owned businesses differ from other businesses since they are governed with the intention to shape and pursue the vision of the business held by a dominant coalition of family members in a manner that is potentially sustainable across generations of the family or families. This track addresses family business education needs and focuses on effectively preparing future leaders to become the new custodians of a sustainable family legacy.

This track focuses on the so-called Sustainability Change Agents (SCAs) who can facilitate necessary change and contribute to more sustainable societies. In order to become successful SCAs, individuals not only need to be equipped with factual knowledge from a variety of disciplines, they also need to train certain competencies such as systemic and normative thinking, they should be able to work in diverse teams, create strategies as well as put plans and interventions into action.

This track focuses on the evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of programs and/or courses designed to develop capabilities related to responsible leadership and sustainable development. Professors and instructors delivering courses or leading programs related to responsible and sustainable management are confronted with the challenges of effectiveness measurement and quality assurance. This track seeks submissions that present and discuss instruments and tools used for these aims.

The General Track is open for submission in various areas that directly or indirectly relate to the main conference theme or different issues, challenges, opportunities and solutions that are connected with the advancement of the SDGs, sustainable development, societal impact and the role of entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as with the new approaches to and practices of responsible leadership education that are needed for the changemakers of tomorrow.
Conceptual or empirical research papers, along with works in progress and/or proposals for innovative research designs that lead to new insights or challenge established frameworks about the issues involved are highly welcome for this track, as well as case studies illustrating creative solutions and innovative practices in business, management education, policy making and/or the respective partnerships among different stakeholders.
Depending on the paper submission concentration, the accepted papers for the General Track might be grouped into different thematically focused sub-tracks.

In order to allow our authors a certain flexibility in their submissions, we have decided on different formats that can be chosen according to the needs and preferences of the respective author. In other words, you decide what is the best submission format for you. Please note the length of the contribution and the specified word limit. Regardless of the submission format, all contributions will be peer reviewed and - if accepted - presented at the conference.
In the spirit of co-creation, we encourage submission of alternative session formats, which encourage the sharing of best practices and new approaches in the spirit of experiential learning, collaboration, and experimentation (other format). If you submit a proposal for other formats, we do not have any specific requirements (document size max. 3 MB). Please ensure that your description is clear and takes into consideration resource requirements (equipment, space, time, participants).
