Shenzhen is located on the southeastern coast of China, in the south of Guangdong Province and on the east bank of the Pearl River Estuary.

Over the last four decades of reform and opening up, Shenzhen has gone through hardship to grow from a fishing village to an international metropolis. This is now a glamorous city of dynamism and vitality and a promising base for entrepreneurs and investors.

Shenzhen, as a window through which China began to reform and open up, boasts a complete logistics infrastructure and networks. It is the only city in China with sea, land, air and rail ports. Shenzhen is a port city with the largest number of ports in China, the largest number of inbound and outbound visitors and the largest traffic flow.

Shenzhen has always been considered as a destination for investment by foreign investors. In recent years, the investments from Fortune 500 companies in Shenzhen have increased significantly. More than 290 Fortune 500 companies have invested in Shenzhen. The number of multinational companies investing in Shenzhen is increasing.

Shenzhen is also one of China’s three major financial centers. Shenzhen Stock Exchange is one of the two largest stock exchanges in mainland China, and its trading volume is the third largest in the world.

Shenzhen has always been at the forefront of innovation in intellectual property rights in China, providing strong support for Shenzhen's business environment.

On December 7, 2008, Shenzhen joined the UNESCO Global Network of Creative Cities, becoming the first city in China and the sixth in the world to be the "City of Design", and the first city in a developing country to receive this honorary title.

Innovation is in Shenzhen’s genes. Shenzhen is the first National Demonstration City of Innovation in China. It is developing itself as an international science and technology center and an industrial innovation center, playing a leading role in electronic information, Internet, biology, and new energy industries.

High and new technology, financial services, modern logistics, and culture and creative industries are four industrial pillars in Shenzhen.

Shenzhen has "the Eight Most Beautiful Coastlines in China", was selected as one of the top ten cities and countries worth visiting by Lonely Planet, and was rated as one of the 31 must-see tourist destinations in the world by the New York Times.
