The City


Padua is the capital of the province of Padua and the economic and communications hub of the area. Padua has a population of approx. 214,000 inhabitants.
The industrial area of Padova is now one of the biggest industrial zones in Europe. The main offices of 1,300 industries are based here, employing 50,000 people.
Padova is a picturesque city, with a dense network of arcaded streets opening into large communal piazze, and many bridges crossing the various branches of the river Bacchiglione, which once surrounded the ancient walls like a moat.

The University


The Università degli Studi di Padova is a premier Italian university located in the city of Padua, Italy. It was founded in 1222 as a school of law and was one of the most prominent universities in early modern Europe. It is the second-oldest university in Italy. In 2010 the university had approximately 65,000 students and in 2016 was ranked "best university" among Italian institutions of higher education with more than 40,000 students.
Galileo Galilei held his chair of mathematics at the Università degli Studi di Padova between 1592 and 1610.
