  • In the European Union, the approval of food or animal feed is subject to regulatory requirements (Regulation (EC) No 852-853/2004 and others). System and product certifications are differentiated so that different standards can be drawn on. Specific topics addressed in this context are:

    Approvals and inspections of production plants and processes
    Special food law and food hygiene law (incl. HACCP)
    Exceptions within the EU for regulatory affairs
    Austrian and international Codex Alimentarius
    Official control
    Traceability in European food law
    Quality seals
    Voluntary standards (IFS Food Standard, ISO, FFSC)
    Legal classification of foodstuffs: additives, flavorings, novel foods, plant-based foods, food supplements
    Claims for ingredients and nutritional value labeling, product-related claims
    Liabilities
    European Food Safety Authority activities: risk assessment vs. risk management
