This specialization on health management provides a comprehensive overview of the key concepts related to healthcare management and decision-making. It covers a broad range of topics including finance management, international welfare systems, determinants of health, and ethical decision making.

Students will gain knowledge and skills to understand and apply finance management tools and calculate projects within the healthcare sector, identify health system indicators and conduct a comparative analysis, understand the parameters and the global context of health and social systems, understand the link between the determinants of health and health equity, and understand the basic concepts of human rights. In addition, students will learn about health economics and how to analyze and evaluate health policy decisions.

The program provides a strong foundation of theoretical and practical knowledge to help students understand healthcare management.


Target group

This Certificate Course in Health Management is ideal for healthcare professionals, entrepreneurs and those working in policy-making, management and finance roles, who want to develop their knowledge and skills to become the next generation of health leaders.

This program provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the latest healthcare developments and tools, and enables them to apply them to their own organizations. Participants will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of finance management in healthcare, as well as the types of health systems, global health context, and the determinants of health.

They will also have the opportunity to choose from two elective courses, on Ethical Decision Making and Health Economics, to gain valuable insights into the ethical and economic implications of health and healthcare. Participants will leave the program with the necessary competencies to make informed decisions and to lead their organizations in a way, that is financially and ethically sound.


Upon completion of the module

Applied Finance Management: participants

  • understand the fundamentals of finance management in healthcare;
  • have knowledge of different business models and payment system;
  • can apply financial management tools and they can calculate real-life projects within the healthcare sector;
  • understand the basics of medical controlling and quality management.


International Welfare Systems
: participants

  • know the types of Health systems;
  • are able to identify health system indicators and conduct a comparative analysis;
  • understand the overview of ethical foundations of health economics;
  • understand the parameters and the global context of health and social systems, as well as the appropriate control knobs to manage them.


Determinants of Health
: participants

  • understand the link between the determinants of health and health equity and can describe the key features and challenges of the social, legal, political, economic, commercial, environmental, and cultural / behavioral determinants of health;
  • understand policy processes at the global level linked to the determinants of health and can connect them to health issues in their countries of origin.


Elective 1 Ethical Decision Making
: participants

  • understand the basic concepts of human rights;
  • understand the link between Human Rights and Ethics;
  • are able to explain how and to what extent human rights should determine our decision-making.


Elective 2 Health Economics
: participants

  • understand the economic relevance of health and healthcare;
  • understand the basic features of health markets;
  • understand key terms in health economics.
