Wanted: The MCI Song!

Wanted: The MCI Song!

MCI has many faces, many stories, and a whole lot of spirit – but no song of its own yet! We want to change that, together with you.

What's this about?

We're looking for the MCI Song – a piece of music that represents our university, captures its spirit, and moves or inspires students, staff, and friends of MCI alike.

Who can take part?

Everyone who belongs to the MCI community:

  • Students
  • Staff
  • Friends of MCI

Whether you're a solo artist, a band, a flat-share project, or a spontaneous study group – everyone is warmly invited!

What should the song be like?

Creativity is called for – in every direction!

  • Any genre is allowed – pop, rock, hip-hop, electro, ballad, or something completely new: let your imagination run free.
  • The song should represent MCI – its spirit, its values, its campus life, or simply the feeling of being part of this community.
  • Don't worry about high-end production: the song doesn't need to be recorded professionally in a studio. A recording made on your phone or in your own room is perfectly fine – the idea matters, not studio quality.

Important: the song should be crafted with care. Creativity and humor are welcome, but the song should portray MCI in a fitting and representative way.

Very important: copyright

The song must be 100% original and free of copyrighted material.

Specifically, that means:

  • No use of existing melodies, beats, or samples that are copyright-protected
  • No cover of a (well-known) song with new lyrics (including "re-lyricing" of existing songs)
  • Lyrics, melody, and composition must be original and self-created
  • If you use royalty-free beats, samples, or instrumentals, please make sure this use is explicitly permitted (e.g. through appropriate licenses) and credit the source

This is the only way we can make sure the song truly becomes your MCI Song – unique and free of legal pitfalls.

So – how can I take part?

Please submit your song as an "MP3" by DATE to song@mci.edu, including the following information:

  • Name
  • Program of study/department
  • Song title
