MCI Rector Andreas Altmann is both delighted and relieved by the decision of Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research, Heinz Faßmann, not to cut funding for university of applied sciences places in 2019.

For a long time, there has been an ongoing debate concerning the reduction of government funding of currently 8,000 euros per study place by 2% this year. Combined with annual inflation, this would have meant an effective funding cut of more than 4% and, consequently, a considerable reduction of the quality and efficiency of teaching and research services.

“This is great news, and an even greater relief, because otherwise we would not have been able to maintain our current performance level and quality standard,” Rector Andreas Altmann expresses his relief. Altmann knows the funds are well-invested: “Not only do the funds create opportunities for young professionals, but they also promote the economic growth, innovative power, and competitiveness of the Tyrolean business location.”
