Management Center Innsbruck has reason to celebrate: just as in 2017, the host of the TOURISSIMUS closing event was able to win the popular award again this year, prevailing against Vienna University of Economics and Business as well as Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. The distinction is down to  MCI Tourism graduates Astrid Sommer, Martin Anderl, and Jannis Braun, whose submissions excelled throughout.

With her Master’s thesis titled “Digitalization in tourism: challenges and consequences for destination management”, Astrid Sommer came in second place in the Marketing & Destination Management category; Jannis Braun followed in third place with his paper on “Brand identity as the basis of brand leaders in alpine destinations: taking stock of traditional models”. In the Tourist Industry category, Martin Anderl convinced the jurors with his submission on “Knowledge transfer in the context of external succession in small and medium-sized family businesses” and thus won third place.

Hubert Siller, head of MCI Tourism Studies, is proud of the distinction: “In international soccer, one would say we were able to score a hat trick this year with the TOURISSIMUS Award, the DGT Science Award and the Tyrolean Economic Chamber Science Award. I want to congratulate all who contributed to this achievement, especially Astrid Sommer, Martin Anderl, and Jannis Braun on their performance in the TOURISSIMUS competition.”

MCI Rector Andreas Altmann emphasizes: “Congratulations to Astrid Sommer, Martin Anderl, and Jannis Braun on their achievement. I would like to take the opportunity to thank Hubert Siller and his committed team, who have promoted exceptional management talents in the tourism industry for many years. The 2018 TOURISSIMUS Award testifies to this in an impressive way.”

Every year, the prestigious Austrian Society of Applied Research in the Tourism and Leisure Industry (ÖGAF) gives the TOURISSIMUS Award to an Austrian institution of higher education. Individual awards are handed out in the categories of Marketing & Destination Management, Sustainability in Tourism, Tourist Industry, and Mobility. The winner is selected based on the overall results of individually submitted projects.
