In appreciation of her achievements in research, teaching, and the development of Innsbruck as a location for science, as well as of her exemplary translation of research results into teaching, Management Center Innsbruck (MCI) recently conferred the title of Professor on Yeongmi Kim, PhD.

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical & Information Engineering and a Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Yeongmi Kim obtained her PhD in Mechatronics from the School of Information and Mechatronics at GIST (Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology) in South Korea. She spent several years doing research at ETH Zurich and the University of Sheffield. Since 2015, she has been a member of the faculty of medical technology at the MCI Department of Mechatronics.

Yeongmi Kim is characterized by her outstanding commitment, which is also represented through numerous awards, scholarships and conference presentations. Her comprehensive list of publications affirms the common thread running through her research activity: the development of electronic assistance systems that support physically challenged people both in everyday life, by way of an electronic white cane, and in rehabilitation after serious illness. In her excellent inaugural address “Sensory motor rehabilitation for restoring hand function after stroke” she dealt with the question of how best to restore the hand functions of patients who have suffered from a stroke with the support of electronic devices.

With her research expertise, Yeongmi Kim wholly lives up to the standards of the Entrepreneurial School®, which sees it as its research mission to develop targeted solutions that are immediately applicable to issues within industry and our society. In addition, Yeongmi Kim is particularly successful in transferring her research work to teaching practice.

MCI Rector Andreas Altmann, as well as Head of the Academic Council, Franz Pegger, and Head of the MCI Department of Mechatronics, Andreas Mehrle, presented the certificate of appointment to Yeongmi Kim in the presence of her family, colleagues, and students.
