Tyrol and MCI Part of the Global UN Tourism Network

"TYSTO" is Austria's first member in the United Nations' Tourism Observatory Network

Following the Tyrolean tourism strategy "The Tyrolean Way – Perspectives for Responsible Tourism Development," MCI will take the lead in coordinating the "Tyrolean Sustainable Tourism Observatory" (TYSTO).

In close collaboration between MCI, the State of Tyrol, Tirol Werbung, the Tyrolean Economic Chamber, the Association of Tyrolean Tourism Associations (VTT), and many other stakeholders, TYSTO collects and analyzes tourism-related, economic, social, and environmental data to create a fact-based foundation for responsible tourism development in Tyrol.

Tyrol's acceptance as the first Austrian member into UN Tourism's "INSTO" network of tourism observatories now makes it possible to gain valuable insights from other leading destinations worldwide. To discuss the collaboration, Mario Gerber, Tyrolean State Councilor for Tourism, Economy, and Digitalization, and Hubert Siller, Head of the Department of Tourism & Leisure Business at MCI, visited the UN Tourism headquarters in Madrid.

A key initial step is the development of a publicly accessible platform designed to make the collected data transparent and to promote knowledge transfer to all stakeholders. Additionally, TYSTO will submit an annual report on tourism development in Tyrol to UN Tourism.

About INSTO

INSTO stands for “International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories” and represents a global network of observatories dedicated to monitoring the economic, ecological, and social impacts of tourism at the destination level and facilitating knowledge exchange among themselves. The initiative is based on the long-standing commitment of UN Tourism, a globally operating organization of the United Nations.
