MCI Welcomes Government Program for Universities of Applied Sciences

Date 2025-03-05

Innovation and fresh impulses for research, education & economic development

MCI Rector Andreas Altmann expresses his contentment with the priorities set for Universities of Applied Sciences (HAW) in the new government program:

  • Improved financial planning security
  • Consideration of comparable doctoral models within the European higher education area
  • Provision of research funds for industry-related research projects
  • Strengthening university autonomy in student admissions management
  • Simplification or elimination of program accreditation for degree programs
  • Expansion of study programs in particularly labor market-relevant fields

“The newly formed federal government has evidently recognized that science policy is not a matter of status politics, but of location policy, and that Austria cannot afford to overlook the expertise, innovative strength, and performance of the Universities of Applied Sciences in maintaining its international competitiveness,” states MCI Rector Andreas Altmann.

He continues: “It is now crucial to move swiftly and decisively toward implementing the outlined objectives. At MCI, in collaboration with the Austrian University of Applied Sciences Conference, we are ready to contribute as a partner in this process. My thanks go to all committed stakeholders at the political party level, social partners, and regional authorities who have proactively engaged with a sense of responsibility for our country.”
