From May 19 to 23, 2025, the third edition of the MCI Sustainability Week offered a diverse program addressing the ecological, social, and economic dimensions of sustainable development in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The wide-ranging event topics included climate change and health, safety and migration, as well as responsible corporate governance and participatory models for shaping the future. A particular highlight was the event “The Future of Alpine Leisure: Balancing Nature and Tourism”, where experts from academia and industry discussed sustainable tourism strategies for the Alpine region.
MCI and Beyond
Numerous MCI departments contributed to the thematic richness with innovative formats – including a “Bike Cinema” (Social Work), the “MCI Philosophicum” (Nonprofit, Social & Health Management), and a workshop on “Female Futures & Entrepreneurship” (MCI UNESCO Chair in Futures Capability). International collaborations, such as the webinar “Building Bridges in Stormy Times” in cooperation with the Ulysseus European University, as well as joint activities with the öh mci and the PHT (University College of Teacher Education Tirol), added further value to the program.
External guests were also invited to selected lectures on sustainability in the textile industry, healthcare, marketing, and agriculture. In addition, students from four Tyrolean schools participated in workshops on future-shaping, climate change, plastic, and the SDGs.
The week was organized by the MCI Center for Responsible Management & Social Impact, with strong support from students of the Business & Management degree program and the MCI SDG Ambassador Team.
Janine Prokesch and Regina Obexer, the main organizers at MCI, expressed their enthusiasm about the strong interest and active engagement: “The energy throughout the week was truly inspiring. It is encouraging to see how many people are contributing innovative ideas and passionate commitment to a sustainable future.”
MCI Rector Andreas Altmann also emphasized the significance of the week: “Sustainability is a core part of our identity as a university. The MCI Sustainability Week is a prime example of how education, research, and society can create impact together.”
The MCI Sustainability Week 2025 was certified as a GREEN EVENT TIROL – a quality label awarded to events with a special focus on ecological, social, and economic sustainability. Special thanks go to the partners and supporters who made this week possible: hollu, Swarco, IKB, Thöni, ASI Reisen, öh mci, PwC, and the Tyrol Economic Chamber.
