Recognition for outstanding teaching goes to Matthias Janetschek, Michael Meister, and Christian Ploder

In recognition of outstanding achievements in teaching, the MCI Academic Council has been presenting the Teaching Award annually since 2015. Faculty members are automatically nominated based on student evaluations of their courses. This year, the Teaching Award goes to Matthias Janetschek, Michael Meister and Christian Ploder.

Assoc. Prof. Matthias Janetschek, PhD | Digital Business & Software Engineering

Matthias Janetschek studied Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, where he worked as a research associate from 2011 to 2018. Since 2018, he has been actively involved in teaching at MCI and played a key role in the development and advancement of the bachelor's and master's programs in Digital Business & Software Engineering. Students praise his strong subject expertise, the practical relevance of his courses, and the comprehensive learning materials that make even complex topics accessible and easy to understand.

Prof. Dr. Michael Meister, MSc | Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering

Michael Meister has been teaching at MCI since 2017 and is receiving the Teaching Award for the third time. He earned his PhD in Engineering Sciences at the University of Innsbruck, where he also worked as an assistant professor and research associate. He completed his master’s degree in Physics at the prestigious Imperial College London. Students describe his classes as clearly structured, comprehensible, and motivating, and particularly value his patience and supportive learning environment.

Prof. Dr. Christian Ploder | Management, Communication & IT

Christian Ploder completed his PhD in Information Systems at the University of Innsbruck in 2019 and subsequently led international IT and ERP projects in the paper, medical device, and pharmaceutical industries. His passion for teaching and research brought him to MCI, where he now combines academic rigor with hands-on experience as a professor. With enthusiasm, innovative teaching methods such as simulations and gamification, and a strong practical focus, he succeeds in motivating students, encouraging active participation, and sparking interest in even the most demanding topics.
