Every one of us can contribute to a better future through small changes in our everyday lives – and that is exactly what the annual “MCI Sustainability Week” is all about. Now in its fourth year, the successful initiative was once again organized by students and staff of the Entrepreneurial School®, creating a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and new ideas for a more sustainable future.
More than 900 students, faculty and staff members, high school students, and external guests took part in workshops, excursions, webinars, discussions, and academic sessions throughout the week. The program opened with a distinguished guest lecture by Michael Losch, Coordinator for Bioeconomy at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development, who spoke about the European bioeconomy strategy.
Events throughout the week were organized by numerous MCI departments and demonstrated the many different dimensions of sustainability: from workshops on plastics, biodiversity, and future scenarios to presentations on energy innovation, company sustainability, and social responsibility. International perspectives were also highlighted through an event hosted within the European university alliance Ulysseus, focusing on the role of higher education institutions in driving sustainable transformation across Europe.
The closing event, titled The Full Spectrum, reinforced the week’s core message: sustainability must be understood and discussed in all its dimensions and from a wide range of perspectives in order to create lasting impact for business and society.
The MCI Sustainability Week was led by the MCI Center for Responsibility & Social Impact with strong support from students, who actively contributed to the organization of both the opening and closing events as well as the accompanying social media communication. The entire week was certified as a GREEN EVENT TIROL, a quality label awarded to events with a strong commitment to ecological, social, and economic sustainability.
Lead organizers Janine Prokesch and Regina Obexer emphasize the importance of the initiative: “This was already the fourth edition of MCI Sustainability Week, and every year we are inspired by the strong engagement of young people. Sustainability concerns all of us, and especially in turbulent times like these, it is encouraging to see so many individuals committed to shaping our future.”
MCI Rector Andreas Altmann highlights the interdisciplinary significance of the event: “Sustainability must be understood as a comprehensive mission. In the future, we must look beyond ecology and climate protection and also pay attention to the performance, competitiveness, and long-term viability of our region, the companies operating here, and the sustainable financing of our social, healthcare, and pension systems.”
Special thanks go to the partners and sponsors whose support made the week possible: hollu, IKB, INNIO, SWARCO, ASI Reisen, ÖH MCI, PwC, SYNCRAFT, Wirtschaftskammer Tirol, IVB, and Ulysseus.
