During the fourth Responsible Management Education (RME) Week in Cairo, Birgit Bosio, Professor at the MCI Department of Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Leisure Business, received a Recognition Award at the PRME Education Awards. The award honors innovative teaching concepts that successfully integrate responsible management and sustainable development into higher education.
PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) is an initiative of the United Nations Global Compact that promotes responsible management education and places social responsibility as well as the integration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the core of higher education.
Birgit Bosio’s teaching concept is designed to equip future tourism leaders with the knowledge and practical skills needed to embrace responsible management and sustainable business practices from the very beginning of their careers. Her submission impressed the jury through its innovative pedagogical approach, strong collaboration with regional stakeholders, and outstanding practical relevance.
“The concept is built around three interconnected learning modules: a comprehensive introduction to sustainable development and the Sustainable Development Goals, their application within the tourism industry, and an interactive SDG World Café. Close collaboration with experts from Tyrol’s tourism sector is a key element of the concept, enabling students to connect academic knowledge with real-world practice,” explains Birgit Bosio.

Birgit Bosio graduated from MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® with a degree in Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Leisure Business in 2004 and earned her doctorate in Economics from the University of Salzburg in 2016. Following professional positions at Tirol Werbung and More than metrics GmbH, among others, she joined the MCI Department of Entrepreneurship, Tourism & Leisure Business in 2006. She was appointed Professor in 2025.
In addition to her teaching and research activities, Bosio serves as an SDG Ambassador, supporting MCI’s strategic development in the field of sustainability. She is also actively involved in applied research projects, including F.acT – Center for Tourism, Research & Media and the TYSTO Tyrolean Sustainable Tourism Observatory.
