Sustainability and digitalization are no longer separate agendas—they are two sides of the same transformation. Companies that integrate both secure their competitiveness and actively help shape the future. This is precisely what the concept of Twin Transformation describes: the simultaneous and closely interconnected advancement of digital transformation and sustainability transformation.

In the course of this Twin Transformation of digitalization and sustainability, fundamental changes emerge. Companies face the challenge of advancing both transformations simultaneously while strategically leveraging synergies. At the same time, this requires a critical perspective: digitalization is not an end in itself. It consumes resources and energy and must be deliberately designed to truly contribute to social and ecological transformation.

The compact training program focuses on the three areas of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), and their integration with digital tools, AI-supported methods, and data-driven approaches.

The program provides participants with practical and theory-based tools to competently and entrepreneurially manage challenges arising from regulatory, technological, and societal changes. It also reflects on key tensions of digitalization, including rebound effects, the ecological footprint of digital infrastructures, as well as data protection and broader societal impacts.

Participants develop practical, concise, and relevant content that they can directly implement and embed within their own organizations using scientifically grounded tools, AI applications, and frameworks. They work with best-practice examples and build a cross-sectoral network.

After completing the certificate course, you will be able to
  • identify and manage current and future challenges of the twin transformation for companies and organizations;
  • understand sustainability and digitalization as a holistic, mutually reinforcing transformation process and an integrative approach;
  • identify, assess, and initiate targeted measures regarding the risks and opportunities of this dual transformation for their own organization;
  • formulate a sound sustainability strategy, considering relevant business areas and identify the prerequisites for successful operationalization;
  • develop an ESG data strategy and select and implement appropriate digital tools for their organization (AI-supported methods and digital tools for carbon accounting, ESG data management, and reporting);
  • define, reflect on, and further develop skills, competencies, mindsets, and values related to responsible and digital ESG management;
  • build new networks and relationships and leverage synergies to drive the twin transformation beyond their own organization.
