As in the previous year, Mag. Barbara Stibernitz LL.M. from the fh gesundheit and MCI Professor Dr. Markus Frischhut LL.M. were involved in the 2025 Children's Summer University offered by the Junge Universität Innsbruck.
“We want to make children aware of right and wrong in everyday situations, strengthen their civil courage, and awaken their enthusiasm for democracy and independent justice,” explain the two leaders and science ambassadors of the initiative.
As part of the full-day program, children and young people between the ages of 10 and 16 not only had the opportunity to attend two trials in the jury room of the Innsbruck Regional Court before Judge Dr. Norbert Hofer, but later also to slip into the roles of prosecutors, judges, and defense attorneys themselves.
Before that, however, they were able to visit the so-called Halbgesperre (the regional court's prison for the day of a trial) and the Innere Stadt police station. District Inspector Josef Gspan, deputy head of the Innere Stadt police station, explained how the police work with the public prosecutor's office and the court. Under the expert guidance of all those involved, the importance of law and justice was then “reenacted” in the courtroom using a real case.
