“Law Explained Simply!”: Enthusiasm at the Kinder-Sommer-Uni 2026

As in previous years, Mag. Barbara Stibernitz, LL.M., from fh gesundheit and MCI Professor Dr. Markus Frischhut, LL.M., took part in the Kinder-Sommer-Uni 2026 of the Junge Uni Innsbruck with their event “Law Made Simple!”

“We want to make children aware of right and wrong in everyday situations, strengthen their civic courage, and spark their enthusiasm for democracy and an independent judiciary,” explain the two leaders and science ambassadors of the initiative. Apparently with success, as the reactions show:

“My son was at Law Made Simple! today. He and his friends were super enthusiastic… Many thanks to everyone who gave the kids an unforgettable, exciting, and interesting day.”

As part of the full-day program, the children and teenagers aged 10 to 14 had the opportunity to attend a criminal trial on site at the Innsbruck Regional Court. Later, they were able to immediately put their freshly acquired knowledge of proceedings with lay judges into practice themselves. Before that, they had the chance to visit the Inner City Police Station, where Chief Inspector Josef Gspan, the deputy head of the station, explained how the police work together with the public prosecutor’s office and the courts.

In the afternoon, it was time to step into the roles of the public prosecutor, judges, defense counsel, private parties, expert witnesses, and interpreters to “re-enact” their own legal case in the jury courtroom of the Innsbruck Regional Court with plenty of acting talent and, more importantly, lots of laughter.

Under the expert guidance of the science ambassadors and Higher Regional Court Judge Mag. Klemens Eppacher, the key takeaways of the day were discussed, above all the importance of law and justice in all areas of life, not just in court.
