Recently, Prof. Dr. Stephan Schlögl attended the 7th CUI ACM International Conference on Conversational User Interfaces at the University of Waterloo in the Canadian province of Ontario. Stephan has been an active contributor to the conference since its inception in 2019 – whether as a reviewer of academic papers or by taking on various roles within the organizing committees.
This time, Stephan served as Registration Co-Chair and was particularly pleased to see that the conference – held for the first time outside of Europe – attracted 135 interdisciplinary participants from around the world. Attendees came from leading research institutions such as MIT and the University of Cambridge, as well as from the tech industry, including companies like Google DeepMind.
With iconic Canadian specialties like Poutine (fries with cheese curds and gravy) and sweet BeaverTails, the conference offered a relaxed atmosphere for academic exchange on the latest developments in digital assistants, chatbots, and generative AI applications.
The event also included a cultural exploration: a visit to a local farmers market with tastings of maple syrup and apple fritters, and a traditional Indigenous smudging ceremony – a rare and special highlight. Truly, an unforgettable experience within the context of an academic conference.
