Last weekend, we welcomed our new part-time students in the bachelor’s program Business & Management for Professionals and the master’s program International Business & Management. At the beginning of October, the full-time students in the bachelor’s program Business & Management and the master’s program International Business & Management will follow. We are very excited to accompany our students during this formative period!
This moment at the start of the semester also invites a fundamental question: What does it actually mean to study?
Embarking on an adventure
Studying means setting out on an academic, professional, and personal journey – into fascinating worlds full of ideas, inspiring questions and answers, and new horizons. To study is to embrace discovery, to create connections where others see only separation, and to pursue one’s own path. It fosters curiosity, creativity, and the ability not only to understand key insights and visionary thoughts but also to carry them forward.
Scientific thinking as a mindset
An academic education provides not only expertise and practical skills but also a special attitude that leads to critical, reflective, and systematic thinking and action. Science means formulating problems precisely, recognizing relevant connections, testing hypotheses, weighing evidence – and ultimately arriving at sound decisions.
Connecting theory & practice
These principles are reflected concretely in our courses: when students, for example, discuss groundbreaking business ideas with successful entrepreneurs during our Business Friday, when they tackle complex issues in practice-oriented company projects, or when they face real entrepreneurial challenges in their internships. It is never about simple answers, but about understanding connections – and developing well-founded solutions.
Our study programs are designed to bridge science and practice, addressing real-world issues and tackling them with academic methods.
This creates a dual benefit: our students learn to apply established and modern theories in practice – while also developing a deeper understanding of the principles that make entrepreneurial action successful in the long run. In this way, they are ideally prepared for a business world shaped by digitalization, sustainability, and innovation pressure.
Studying as personal development
Studying also means developing oneself. Those who embark on a degree program not only acquire new knowledge but also learn self-organization, teamwork, reflection, and perseverance. International experiences – whether through our many opportunities for the International Studies or for a semester abroad, or through exchanges with fellow students from around the globe – broaden personal horizons and foster openness as well as intercultural competence.
A degree at the MCI department of Business & Management strengthens personal responsibility and independence, promotes communication and problem-solving skills, and teaches how to deal successfully and authentically with one’s own personality. At the same time, students grow by critically reflecting on different perspectives, working with focus, and sharpening their own judgment.
A shared adventure
Studying is therefore much more than the transfer of knowledge. It is an invitation to actively shape our common future, broaden horizons, and take responsibility in business and society.
We look forward to accompanying our new students on this journey – with modern curricula, excellent faculty, and strong connections to the business world.
A warm welcome – here’s to an exciting journey together!
