As part of the annual MCI Sustainability Week, a special event format recently took place: a bicycle cinema entitled “Moving Stories – Young Migration in the Spotlight of Sustainability.” The MCI Sustainability Week is an event dedicated to increasing the visibility and participation of young people in social issues of the future, in which the MCI Department of Social Work and the Center for Social & Health Innovation were happy to participate.
What made the bike cinema so special? All of the electricity for the screening was generated by muscle power on four bicycles. Visitors took turns pedaling to generate the necessary energy.
Seven impressive short films by young people were shown, which were created as part of the international research project LYMAS – “Life Strategies of Young Labor Migrants in Aging Societies” in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Poland. In participatory filmmaker workshops led by filmmaker and visual researcher Dr. Sezen Kayhan, participants developed their own ideas, directed, and edited their films themselves.
The films creatively highlight the intertwining of migration, sustainability, and social justice in aging societies. After the screening, a panel discussion with the filmmakers took place, during which questions from the audience were incorporated.
