The 25th International Migration Conference recently took place under the title “Solidarity.” The conference focused on the topics of “solidarity,” “current social challenges in the context of migration,” and “sustainable global Social Work and education.” Researchers and experts from the field engaged intensively with questions of solidarity in the context of migration and discussed different forms of concrete support relationships in the areas of family, civil society, the welfare state, and work.
A central concern of the conference was the scientific examination of the broad spectrum of solidarity practices. The focus was on the further development and reflection of solidarity-based action, as well as on addressing current challenges and struggles in this area.
The Department of Social Work was represented this year by Katharina Flunger-Lang. In a panel presentation, she presented key findings from her dissertation research on the topic of “Solidarity in Social Work with Peer Experts.”
The conference provided an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas with international experts in migration research, make new contacts, and develop innovative research ideas. The Department of Social Work is actively involved in various projects for the further development of international migration research, thus making an important contribution to this forward-looking field.
