Focus on the Practical Semester

Networking and Orientation for Social Work Students

For some of our students in the bachelor's program in Social Work, this semester marks a key stage in their studies: they are completing their practical semester in various social economy institutions. In order to prepare them as well as possible for this practice-intensive phase and to accompany them in their transition from theory to professional practice, the department of Social Work focuses on closely integrating academic studies and the professional field.

The department of Social Work combines academic excellence with consistently practice-oriented training. Students are prepared for complex social challenges and are given the opportunity to establish valuable professional contacts at an early stage.

A significant milestone on this path was the Recruiting Forum, organized by the MCI Student & Career Center. The focus was on practical encounters and direct exchange with social economy institutions - especially with a view to the upcoming internship semester.

Students had the opportunity to learn about various fields of activity in personal conversations, get to know potential internships and employers, and build important networks for their internship semester and the time after graduation. At the same time, the participating organizations presented their current projects, internship opportunities, and entry-level positions for graduates.

“The Recruiting Forum is an excellent platform for bringing theory and practice together,” emphasizes Head of Department Belachew Gebrewold. “Especially with regard to the practical semester, our students benefit from direct dialogue with experts and gain a realistic picture of the diverse career fields in Social Work.”

The event underscores the department's practice-oriented approach and MCI's commitment to preparing students specifically for their practical semester and subsequent career entry. With the Recruiting Forum, the Student & Career Center creates a valuable interface between the university and practice, offering guidance and opening up long-term career prospects.
