Department of Social Work Confirmed in Key Role at ogsa

Date 2026-06-25

Moritz Reisberger re-elected to the Board of the Austrian Society for Social Work (ogsa)

The General Assembly of the Austrian Society for Social Work (ogsa) was recently held in Vienna. Moritz Reisberger, research & teaching assistant at the MCI department of Social Work, was appointed to serve another term (2026–2028) on the professional association’s board of directors. The department of Social Work is delighted to once again be represented in Austria’s most important professional association for Social Work and to thus actively contribute to the innovative, scientifically rigorous, and professional advancement of Social Work.

The ogsa is the professional association of all universities offering Social Work programs in Austria. It was founded in 2012 with the involvement of former MCI university lecturer Andrea Trenkwalder-Egger and, as an advocacy group at both the professional and political levels, is committed to promoting high-quality scholarship, research, and teaching in Social Work in Austria in a variety of ways.

Ogsa works closely with sister associations in Germany (dgsa) and Switzerland (SASSA) and coordinates many activities jointly with the obds (Austrian Professional Association of Social Work). Important publications, such as the “Ethical Guidelines for Social Work - Specifically for Austria,” were developed through this collaboration. By organizing conferences and symposia, the association provides an annual forum for discussions between academia and practice.

In recent years, the ogsa has been significantly shaped by university professors Johanna Hefel, as president, and Gabriele Kronberger, as treasurer. Both are stepping down from their positions at the start of the new term. The MCI department of Social Work extends its heartfelt thanks to these ogsa pioneers for their dedication and looks forward with enthusiasm and optimism to the collective growth of the new board.

For MCI students in the bachelor’s program in Social Work as well as the master’s program in Social Work, Social Policy & Management, these developments are a great asset, as Johanna Hefel will remain with the MCI department of Social Work as an external lecturer, and Moritz Reisberger will continue to be able to incorporate the latest news from the ogsa committees into his teaching.
