Recently, the department of Social Work at MCI, together with the Social Policy Working Group Tyrol (SPAK), hosted the event “Implementation of Minimum Income Support in Tyrol from the Perspective of Recipients” at MCI.
The focus was on research findings from a group of master’s students and their contextualization within the current social policy debate. Soraya Hock, Moritz Pfeifer und Stefan Wibmer – students of the master’s program Social Work, Social Policy & Management – presented key findings on the experiences and perspectives of recipients in the implementation of minimum income support in Tyrol. These findings were developed as part of a practice-oriented project under the supervision of MCIK professor Christina Lienhart and in cooperation with SPAK (Sozialpolitischer Arbeitskreis), represented by Miriam Tichy (DOWAS) and Lea Herman (lilawohnt).
Based on these results, they proposed concrete recommendations aimed at improving administrative processes, accessibility, and support for those affected. Additionally, Miriam Tichy, social worker at DOWAS, contextualized the findings with commentary on the current amendment to the minimum income scheme and highlighted its anticipated impacts on recipients. An open Q&A at the end offered an opportunity for exchange between participants, researchers, and commentators.
The event underscored the importance of collaboration between MCI and practice: evidence-based insights can directly inform political discussions and institutional decision-making. Especially in the field of minimum income support – a central instrument of social protection – evidence-driven analysis and dialogue-oriented cooperation are crucial to develop needs-based, fair, and effective solutions. In light of ongoing developments and reforms, this exchange is more important than ever to open up perspectives for those affected and strengthen social cohesion in Tyrol.
