mechXchange – Sven Parusel at MCI

Date 2025-04-22

Speaker Sven Parusel welcomed an enthusiastic group of students, graduates and lecturers from the Department of Mechatronics.

In his talk, Parusel focused on the evolution of torque-controlled lightweight robots, which represent a significant advance in robotics and enable safer and more adaptable interactions. He highlighted the development of these technologies from the early innovations at DLR to Franka Research 3, emphasizing key technological milestones.

Another focus was on the fundamental differences between lightweight robots and conventional industrial robot systems and the new fields of application they open up. Parusel also explained the role of the Franka platform as an enabler for embodied AI and presented current research projects in the areas of telepresence and dual-arm applications.

The event ended with a get-together and a practical demonstration of the Franka Robotics Franka Research 3 models at the MCI Center for Production, Robotics and Automation. Participants had the opportunity to experience the latest technologies at first hand and discuss the future of intelligent robotics.

The mechxchange event series promises to become a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge and innovations in the field of mechatronics. The next lecture is already planned - on May 5, 2025, Johannes Englsberger, CEO of Versatile Robotics and DLR Group Leader, will speak about “Monkey-proof Robotics”.
