AustrianSkills is the Austrian National Championship of Professions, where the best young professionals from across Austria compete against one another in their respective tprofessions. The competition takes place every two years, the last one in November 2025, when the Skill “Process Engineering” was included for the first time. The focus is on problem-solving-oriented work as well as technical and practical excellence, with a theoretical foundation serving as a prerequisite for participation.
With the support of his employer, Novartis Pharma GmbH, our student Vincent Track entered this very competition and put his knowledge and skills to the test.
Over the course of three intensive days, he tackled a variety of tasks, including process simulations of wastewater treatment plants, chemical laboratory work, maintenance of pumps and piping systems, and operating a distillation unit. The evaluation focused primarily on the accuracy of the work, but the cleanliness, neatness, and professionalism with which the tasks were completed also played an important role.
Vincent impressed the judges with his work and took first place in “Process Engineering”. The victory at the AustrianSkills qualifies him to compete at WorldSkills, which will take place in Shanghai in September 2026. With participants from over 70 countries and more than 60 different skills, WorldSkills is often described as the Olympics of the professions. Vincent will represent Austria in the Skill “Water Technology” at the WorldSkills 2026. He is already in the midst of preparations, which include various training sessions abroad and mandatory team seminars.
Vincent completed his apprenticeship last year with a high school diploma in chemical process engineering and has since been working in the development lab at Novartis Pharma GmbH, whose financial support is crucial for Vincent’s participation in the WorldSkills. Since September 2025, he has been studying part-time for a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering here at MCI and is very actively involved in his studies as class representative.
The entire Environmental, Process & Energy Engineering team is eagerly looking forward to the WorldSkills in September and is keeping their fingers crossed for Vincent!
