Head of the MCI Department of Social Work discussing Europe's current challenges
"At the cat's table of world politics? Europe's role after the 'turn of the times'" was the central question discussed by Prof. Dr. Belachew Gebrewold with other experts at the 25th International WDR Europaforum.
The event was attended by top politicians, scientists and journalists. It took place in the BOLLE Festsäle in Berlin and was broadcast live on WDR television. The entire broadcast is available in the media library.
WDR – Westdeutsche Rundfunk Köln:
"Supporting Ukraine against the aggressor Russia is one of the new challenges facing Europe. The "turn of the times" has also changed the framework conditions for other major global tasks of the EU.
In this situation, Europe is more than ever obliged to seek its own sovereignty in the solidarity of the EU members. This is about fundamental issues: defending the principles of liberal democracy and the rule of law, about human rights, about securing peace through binding rules of the international order. And, it is about the future of the European Union as an ambitious model of cooperation and integration.
A strategic readjustment of the European project is the next step. Whether or not it succeeds will have a considerable influence on the extent to which the European Union can maintain its place among the global powers."
