Franciszek Rolka came to MCI as an exchange student from Poland and subsequently decided to move to Innsbruck and complete his master’s degree at MCI. We asked him what motivated him to complete his entire degree program at MCI:
Why did you choose MCI for your semester abroad?
When I was applying for my Erasmus+ exchange program, I was looking for a place where I could get a high-quality education, expand my horizons, and gain valuable European experience. But also, to have countless outdoor possibilities to pursue my passion for sports. That’s why MCI in Innsbruck was an excellent choice, because it offers all I expected.
During my exchange I decided to take courses such as Company and Competition Law, International Finance and Entrepreneurship in Family Firms which perfectly complemented my knowledge from a bachelor’s degree in Poland, and also gave me practical knowledge about how business is conducted in a European context.
Furthermore, Alpine surrounding offers endless possibilities to hike, ski and combined with living in a beautiful city with a medieval old town immediately caught my attention, and gave me the instant answer where I would go.
What motivated you to apply for a master's program at MCI after your exchange semester?
At the beginning my Erasmus+ exchange was meant to be a short period in my career, but it changed my life completely. During my time at MCI, I realized that Innsbruck and the university I chose are a great place to develop practical knowledge and build a strong European career foundation. What truly motivated me to stay for the full master's program was the unique teaching style and the academic atmosphere.
During lectures, we didn't just concentrate on pure theory, we worked on real-life cases, and participated in really good and developing discussions. My choice was also motivated by having a chance to gain my master’s degree at a foreign university, it would be a strong advantage in the labor market. During my Erasmus+ program I met many people from around the world. I am certain that my new studies at MCI will help me to build even more international connections.
What is the biggest difference between your home country / home university and Innsbruck /MCI?
The main difference between both cities is the size. Innsbruck is a much smaller and calmer place than Warsaw. However, despite its smaller size, it gives you as many social and learning opportunities as my hometown, with even more possibilities for sports and travelling.
Innsbruck offers a wonderful chance to combine your educational career with outdoor activities, and with a great social life due to the big student community. On the academic side MCI distinguishes itself from my previous university by concentrating on teaching us practical skills of the future. During my master's studies I will be learning about modern challenges in the economy, business and law field.
As we know, the modern economy is shaped by the internet, digital tools, and the rapid growth of AI. Having the knowledge of how to operate in it, will be a powerful tool in the digital world. Changing the fast-paced life of a capital city for calm and modern city in the heart of Alps was the best decision I could have made. I believe that my next 2 years in Innsbruck will be the continuation of the best period of my life.
