On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, our fourth-semester students in the Smart Building Technologies program had the opportunity to visit company partner PLANLICHT as part of the “Lighting Technology I” course.
After a welcome by CEO Felicitas Kohler and a group breakfast featuring a technical introduction by Andreas Mühlthaler and Miriam Döhner, the students spent the rest of the morning gaining comprehensive insights into various areas of the company.
The program included a tour of the manufacturing facility with Stephan Oberhauser, the lighting laboratory with Martin Ittner, and the lighting design and project management departments with Peter Hornich. Another focus was on product development: Raimund Mayr presented the areas of development, CAD, and light control, and provided insights into the technical requirements involved in developing modern lighting systems. Finally, the PLANLICHTSHOP offered an opportunity for discussion and to view products before the students began their journey home.
The excursion enabled the students to link the theoretical content of the course with practical applications and to gain valuable insights into the work processes of an innovative lighting technology company. Special thanks go to CEO Felicitas Kohler and the entire PLANLICHT team for their warm welcome, the organization, and the practical insights.
