MCI Tourism is part of the Enricher Hub Erasmus+ project, which started in January 2024 and will last for a period of three years. The aim of this project, led by the Finnish University of Haaga-Helia, is to promote the twin transition in higher education institutions in Georgia and Moldova. As part of the existing Ulysseus network, a Europe-wide association of universities, three European universities (Haaga-Helia in Finland, Genova University in Italy and MCI Tourism, Austria) are collaborating with three universities in Georgia (Caucasus University, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Telavi State University) and three Moldovan universities (Moldova State University, University of European Political and Economic Studies, Comrat State University) on a training programme for tourism professors.
After an initial analysis of the necessary skills that are currently lacking in both countries and based on a collection of best practices from EU countries, four training courses on sustainability in tourism, service design, design sprints and business model canvas were organised under the lead of MCI Tourism. These courses supported 18+ university professors in promoting the twin transition in their countries. In other words, how can sustainable transformation go hand in hand with digital transformation? These skills will then be passed on directly to students at the six universities and thus to the future decision-makers in the local tourism industry. At the same time, Green Tourism Hubs will be set up at the universities to serve as innovation centres for all three target groups: teachers, students and partners from the tourism industry.
