Alumni and students connect at the Department of Industrial Engineering & Management

The MCI Mentoring Program connects MCI graduates eager to share their professional experiences with students seeking guidance and confidence in shaping their career paths. Based on experiential knowledge and long-term exchange, the program blends personal mentorship with professional networking. The Department of Industrial Engineering & Management has been offering this valuable initiative for three years.

Raphael and Simon are part of the mentoring program and share valuable experiences and insights.

Why did you choose to take part in the mentoring program?

Mentor Simon: As a mentor, I joined the program because I see an opportunity to share my knowledge and experience while supporting young talent. The mentoring program offers me a platform to pass on insights from my work in the automotive and pharmaceutical industries and to help mentees pursue their professional goals.”

Mentee Raphael: Because I’m always open to feedback and committed to continuous self-improvement.”

What value do you gain from the mentoring program?

Mentor Simon: For me, the added value lies in the opportunity to further develop my leadership and communication skills. Through the exchange with my mentees, I also gain new perspectives and innovative ideas that enrich my own professional development.”

Mentee Raphael: The program helps me make better decisions and provides valuable input for both my personal growth and my work in project management.”

What does the program mean to you personally?

Mentor Simon: It’s rewarding to see my mentee grow and move closer to achieving his goals. At the same time, mentoring helps me reflect on my own views and continue improving.”

Mentee Raphael: Through objective feedback, I’m able to make clearer and more well-defined decisions and potentially avoid mistakes I might have made otherwise. Simon is a few years ahead of me professionally, and I truly benefit from that experience on a personal level.”

MCI Mentors & Mentees

Who are MCI mentors? Mentors are committed and experienced professionals who act as trusted companions. They listen, ask questions, provide feedback, offer motivation, share practical advice, open doors to new opportunities, and reflect honestly on their own successes and failures. They also offer access to valuable professional networks.

Who are MCI mentees? Mentees are active bachelor’s students who benefit from informal exchange with experienced professionals. They gain authentic insights into the world of work, develop their personal strengths, receive honest feedback, find guidance for their career entry, and discuss important questions about their future.
