Health Research Award 2014

Excellent MCI graduates receive awards for outstanding theses

Success for graduates of the MCI’s International Health & Social Management study program

At the recent 6th Austrian Healthcare Conference in Vienna, prizes were awarded for the third time for innovative ideas for the health industry. No fewer than three graduates from the MCI’s International Health & Social Management program, namely Julia Bernardi, Laryn McLernon and Katharina Bauer, received Health Research Awards for their excellent theses.

First prizes in the Health Promotion and Health Management categories

The Health Research Award is made in four categories for applied research in the framework of Austrian healthcare study programs and the health industry platform of the Austrian Chamber of Trade and Industry. For their joint thesis, Julia Bernardi and Laryn McLernon were awarded first prize in the Health Promotion category, and Katharina Bauer came first in the Health Management category.

Statements and congratulations

Siegfried Walch, head of the Department of International Health & Social Management at the MCI, congratulated the MCI graduates on winning in two of the four categories of the Health Research Award 2014. “This distinction is confirmation of the commitment and practical orientation of the graduates from our internationally oriented Master’s programs in the field of health management.”

Laryn McLernon and Julia Bernardi added: “We are very thankful to our supervisors Dr. Peter Kreidl and Dr. Anton Petter as well as the International Health and Social Management Team, who supported us tirelessly and helped us overcome numerous barriers in order to shed light on the critical issue of improving vaccination coverage among healthcare workers. Winning the Health Research Award 2014 was the icing on cake and capped an extremely gratifying year at MCI.”

The MCI would like to congratulate the prize-winners and wish them all the best for the future!
