MCI achieves top results at Tourissimus 2016

MCI tourism successful in all categories: Three MCI graduates honored by the Austrian Society for Research in Tourism and Leisure Industry

The FH Joanneum, Bad Gleichenberg, recently hosted the awarding of the popular Tourissimus Award. 20 candidates from eight different institutions participated in the hearings held by a high-class jury. As the only Austrian institution for higher education, MCI nominated three candidates who were able to impress the jury in all of the three award categories.

Verena Riegler distinguished herself from her competitors in the “Sustanability” category and received the first prize. In her paper on the “Prospects for an Environmentally Conscious Natural Resources Use along the Tourism Value Chain in Austria”, Riegler addresses the question of in how far the environmentally conscious treatment of the natural resources water, energy, and air along the tourism value chain might reduce the green purchasing gap and increase the customer value of ecosensitive customers.

With an excellent paper on the “Success Factors for the International Marketing of Alpine Tourism Destinations”, Petra Röck achieved the third place in the category for “Cities & Destinations”. Cornelia Schneider’s work on “Leadership Skills in the Tyrolean Hotel Industry” brought her the fourth place in “Tourist Industry”.

Prof. Hubert J. Siller, Head of the MCI Department for Tourism: “I am absolutely delighted at the results of Tourissimus 2016! It is a great achievement for the award winners as well as the MCI study programs in Tourism.”

Rector Andreas Altmann: “I wish to congratulate Verena Riegler, Petra Röck and Cornelia Schneider on their success and thank Hubert Siller as well as his committed team! For years they have brought forth exceptional management talents in the field of tourism. Regular achievements, such as the present, confirm the excellent work of the team.”
