Social interaction is one of the core factors of successful teamwork. Since the beginning, our DiBSE students already proved to be excellent team players. In the course eCollaboration the topic was transferred into the digital world: digital cooperation, virtual teams, dynamics of online-groups, and many more. The focus of the on-campus day at the MCI was set on teambuilding. The workshop Space Engineering tested the students’ construction and coordination skills. Like ants building an anthill, they built and defended a virtual spacecraft. While one group was doing construction work, the workshop Virtual Reality tried to avoid the opposite: devastation through a bomb. Under time pressure the students were reading and explaining the manuals of a bomb, with the goal to virtually disarm it.
One manner of interaction, both in the real and virtual world, is communication. However, not every form of communication contains words. During an analog teambuilding game the students had to learn to successfully interact non-verbal.
With lots of fun and enthusiasm, the students demonstrated their teamwork skills only after a few weeks of studies.
