MCiT 2017 goes BMW Munich

A report of the MCiT Bachelor students class 2017

As part of the lectures Logistics (MCiT Management) and Information Logistics (MCiT Media), the MCiT department organized an excursion to the BMW factory in Munich for us on 22 November. The students were already enthusiastic about BMW World upon their arrival. They all swarmed out to inspect the building as well as the numerous attractions and automobiles. Most of us were amazed by the BMW-, Mini- and Rolls-Royce-models, while others wanted more than just testing the seats and were promptly persuaded to take a test drive in the BMW i3.

During the following visit of the BMW Museum, we learned interesting facts about the history and development of BMW. The preparation of the individual rooms let us dive into the beginnings of the production of (aircraft) engines and travel back in time to models such as the Dixi and the Isetta. In addition, we gained insights into future developments in the field of e-mobility.

Perfectly timed, we were then guided through the production halls of the BMW factory. An image clip introduced us to the world of BMW development. Our tour started in the press factory and led us on to the construction of the BMW models. The class was impressed by the high level of automation! We were taken to the adjoining building by bus, where we were equipped with protective coats and went through the most modern facility in the automotive industry, the lacquer finish factory, with its processes, commissioned in 2017.

DDI Dr. Helmut Erich Mößmer (Project Manager for Aftersales, Logistics and Quality Management at BMW Group, Munich) emphasizes: "It is important for the courses Logistics & Information Logistics that the students have a clear practical relevance to the topics dealt with theoretically - the management of the BMW production factory in Munich should take this into account.  It is therefore ideal that the excursion takes place at the beginning of the course so that it is simple to actively involve the theory and practice exchange in the lessons - the interaction of the students alone confirms this approach".

Many thanks for the excellent organization of the event and especially to Mr. Mößmer, for the fantastic day at BMW in Munich.
