Think big, work disruptive, embrace AI
MCiT Forum 2019 refers to intriguing topics in the field of “Management, Communication and Information Technology” with a focus on the impact of AI, the increasing complexity of work, the new working styles and the new supporting tools.
The conception “Human + Machine” in conjunction with the future of work provokes numerous discussions. There is the arising concern in regard to replacement of human labour by technologies, on the one hand, and the potential of AI to create new jobs and new business lines, on the other.
The reality is far from machines taking over the world. Although automation is inevitable, it may not be a threat to the workforce but only change the way it works. Besides, AI could be rather considered a facilitation tool in organizations that will help workers execute their working activities better and in a shorter time. It may also be a solution to the challenges in term of workers’ shortages in specific industries. However, the statement “Human plus machine equals superpowers” cannot simply answer the ongoing disputes because there are many aspects that have to be taken into consideration for the proper understanding of AI impact. There are changes that need to be made today. For example, the insufficient training of the workforce affects negatively their readiness to collaborate with AI as a peculiar qualification and skills are required. Moreover, the lack of variety among the companies developing AI is leading to biases and cannot reflect the diverse society that it is supposed to satisfy.
