Eu-HEM Summer School 2023

"Manage yourself and your research": Empowering students through a great week in Innsbruck

The Eu-HEM Summer School is an annual event organized for first-year students in the European master's program of Health Economics and Management (Eu-HEM). 60 students from the four partner universities in Rotterdam, Olso, Bologna and the MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® gathered in Innsbruck from June 26 – 30, 2023 to attend the Summer School which was arranged as a Blended Intensive Program, a new format of Erasmus+ mobility. The aim was to provide an enriching experience for the participants, enabling them to enhance their academic and leadership skills in preparation for their future career and the upcoming master's thesis, which students will write in the fourth semester.

The week started off with an interactive leadership workshop by Alexander Gstrein, who is responsible for Didactics and Methodology at the Theresian Military Academy. The workshop provided students with practical tools and strategies and allowed them to reflect on various concepts connected to communication and leadership.

The second half of the week was dedicated to the master's thesis. Students had the opportunity to engage in thesis workshops tailored to their specific fields of study. Faculty members from each partner university collaborated to deliver a curriculum covering the different fields of specialization in the Eu-HEM master's program (Population Health Management, Health Economics & Policy, Economic Evaluation in Health Care and Management of Health Care Institutions). Students gained valuable insights into current topics, research methods, data analysis techniques and academic writing skills as well as effective thesis structuring.

In addition to the academic and leadership components, the Eu-HEM Summer School facilitated networking events that connected students with peers, second-year students and faculty members. Several coffee breaks, a marketplace of ideas with second-year students and a memorable closing dinner offered the ideal setting for engaging conversations. We thank everyone who contributed to make this edition of the Eu-HEM Summer School a success.
