Micro Lecture: RNA based vaccines

Department Head Christoph Griesbeck informs about RNA based SARS-CoV-2 vaccines

“Students asked me repeatedly about current developments regarding RNA based vaccines against COVID-19 and about an objective and scientifically based assessment,” says Prof. Dr. Christoph Griesbeck, Head of Department and studies for Biotechnology and Food Engineering at MCI. To answer all the questions of the students, he recorded a Micro Lecture. In this short lecture, Christoph Griesbeck answers the following questions:

  • How do RNA vaccines work?
  • Why do they not change the human genome?
  • What are lipid nanoparticles?
  • Why could these vaccines be developed and approved so quickly?

The Micro Lecture is connected to different courses of the bachelors' program Biotechnology and Food Engineering and the Master’s program Biotechnology, e.g. Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics, Biochemistry and Immunology und Preclinical & Clinical Development.
