Development and optimization of a pre-filtration system for bulldozer

Date 2020-07-01

Research project successfully finished in the field of Fluids & Mechanics

Internal combustion engines of bulldozers make high demands on the intake air in the earthmoving sector. The very high dust concentration and heterogeneous composition of the dust-laden air leads to high maintenance costs and machine downtimes. An efficient pre-filtration system helps to increase filter lifetime and cleaning intervals to ensure the desired machine availability. Within the scope of this project laboratory tests were carried out to determine the performance data of existing and alternative pre-filtration systems. A doubling of the service life in direct comparison with the currently used system could be realized.
