Medicine is evolving rapidly, and personalized medicine is becoming increasingly important. In this context, a research project at MCI | The Entrepreneurial School® focuses on data-driven medical decision-making, specifically in the treatment of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries. The goal is to optimize decision-making processes in medical practice through data analysis and thus improve the quality of treatment.
Data-Driven Decision-Making to Optimize ACL Treatment
A key challenge in medical practice is the variability in decision-making when treating ACL injuries. While experienced surgeons can rely on extensive case knowledge, less experienced professionals often lack a solid decision-making foundation. This is where the research project comes in: by analyzing a comprehensive dataset of approximately 500 patients, the factors that play a crucial role in decision-making will be identified. The study records and analyzes patient attributes alongside the treatment decisions made.
Practical Relevance and Impact
This project has the potential to significantly influence medical practice. The analysis highlights which factors have the greatest impact on treatment decisions. As a result, patients can benefit from individually optimized therapy approaches. In particular, young or less experienced surgeons could use the system to receive targeted support in making evidence-based decisions.
Project Partners and Future Perspectives
The research project is being conducted in collaboration with Gelenkpunkt and is supervised by an interdisciplinary team consisting of Katarzyna Anna Stefanowicz, Florian Schneider, Bernhard Hollaus, and Jasper Volmer. The study is expected to run until June 2025.
In the long term, the goal is not only to make the results useful for Gelenkpunkt but also to publish them scientifically. This ensures that the acquired knowledge contributes to the further development of medical decision-making and becomes accessible to a broader professional audience.
With this research, MCI is taking another step towards innovative and data-driven medicine, making a valuable contribution to optimizing patient care.
